More crude oil was produced in the United States during August 2024 than during December 2023, when the previous monthly record of 13.3 million b\/d was set.<\/p>\n<p data-type=\"inbrief\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/images\/2024.11.26\/main.svg\" alt=\"monthly U.S. production of crude oil\" \/><\/p>\n<div class=\"source\"><strong>Data source:\u00a0<\/strong>U.S. Energy Information Administration,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/petroleum\/supply\/monthly\/\"><em>Petroleum Supply Monthly<\/em><\/a><\/div>\n<hr \/>\n<p>In the first eight months of 2024, average monthly U.S. crude oil production only fell below 13.0 million b\/d once, in January. For the full year of 2024, we forecast U.S. crude oil production will average 13.2 million b\/d, according to our most recent\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/outlooks\/steo\/\"><em>Short-Term Energy Outlook<\/em><\/a>, published on November 13. That volume would be more than the 2023 annual average of 12.9 million b\/d, which is the current annual production record. In 2025, we forecast U.S. crude oil production will average 13.5 million b\/d.<\/p>\n<p>The United States became the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=37053\">world\u2019s top crude oil producer in 2018<\/a>, a position it has\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.eia.gov\/todayinenergy\/detail.php?id=61545\">maintained each year since<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>This article was published by the US Energy Information Administration on Nov. 26, 2024.
